Overview

Mr. Alfonso was born in Murillo (Tolima) the 20th of April of 1936, he arrives in Quindio as a coffee picker and he took a lot of carries to the coffee, saved money and brought his family to start growing coffee. He bought a traditional farm in Genova in 1981, all with Typica variety, with out a lot Knowles of the coffee production. 28 of his 73 years have being dedicated to the coffee culture. With his product he could take his family ahead, he is married with 5 sons and 14 grandsons. He says that all of his family has taken the benefits of coffee because they approach until the last cent of profit from the coffee business. In the year 2006, he was recognizing as a “Hard Farmer” in the municipality. Today from his experience he talks about the better prices of coffee because of the better “Quality”, he participate 2 years ago in the Cup of Excellence Competition for the first time, one year ago he got the Rainforest Alliance certification and actually he is selling his coffee in the futures business through the Federation. Care of the Environment He has three water births in his property, he doing the integral management of the shrubs and weeds. He is using in a rational manner the agrochemicals of third and fourth grade. He is doing the ecologic process and treatment of domestic residual water, he is recycling solids from the farm and organic residuals in a hole for the pulp that came from the coffee process. FERTILIZATION:

Two applications of chemical fertilizer per year, he is using also the pulp and the organic residues for the organic fertilizer.

DISEASES AND PLAGUES CONTROL:

The altitude and weather are benefic for the health of the coffee, they don’t have too much “la broca“, but still they use cultural practices in the picking like RE-RE (Repaso de Recoleccion) Harvesting Review, HARVEST CYLE: Semester A 80% and Semester B 20% SYSTEM PROCESS: Traditional - Washed – Demucilage machine
