Description

Overview

Sylvia Schonenberg has been dedicated to producing high quality coffee for the past few years; her objective is to seize the opportunity of her farm condition to obtain a competitive product that catches the attention and appreciation from connoisseurs around the world. Sylvia inherited San Isidro farm from her father Juan F. Schonenberg Silva, a well known coffee producer and exporter. The family has been in the coffee business for several generations. San Isidro farm is located in the Tecapa-Chinameca mountain range area at Canton San Juan, Cerro de Alegria. From its top you can admire the Laguna de Alegria, which is a beautiful lake inside a crater of a dormant volcano. The farm has been cultivated with Bourbón variety since its beginning. The lot selected to participate was from Plot #2 called Alegria, it is 100% Bourbón grown at 1300 mts. above sea level. San Isidro won 19th place in last year CoE competition, thus confirming again the excellent quality of the coffee produced, which is assured upon controlling all stages of the production, picking at the optimum ripeness moment, guiding the pickers to select the best cherries, and at the end of the working day they sort the coffee to remove overripe, dried, green and defective beans. For this hard and delicate work they are well recognized. After that our coffee is delivered the very same day to the mill where the process starts immediately. The ecological mill is called Beneficio Santa Teresa and it is certified by Rain Forest. Being able to win again this year could not be done without the cooperation of all the people involved, who worked very hard in order to achieve our goals. Sylvia has been improving every aspect of the farm, raises production, improves quality and is constantly working on making better and easier the conditions of life for the people. Already brought electricity and water to the farm. We also make great efforts in the ecological part in order to conserve and cultivate forest species native to the region, and protecting the existing wild life.
