Overview

Francisco Roberto Moran, was born 1964 in the comunity of San Marcos de Ocotepeque. He inherts the coffee growing culture from his father Mr. Eulalio Moran who dedicated his life to growing coffee since 1950. Saving my salary as a low income worker, in 1955 we bought a samll property called La Pedrera (Rocky land) and began growing Pacas and Bourbón. Then we bought another property called The Deep Creek were I also grow coffee, and I continued investing in more land to grow coffee. In the year 2002, when there was international crisis in coffee due to low prices, we were unable to buy fertilizer, but the Catholic church in our comunity taught us to produce organic fertilizers such as Bocachi, chicken & cattle manure, coffee pulp, and other organic compost. We also learnt to prepare folliar nutrients, organic insecticides, to keep or plantations and began our transition from conventional growing to organic practices. With help of the coffee cooperative we were able to certify one lot in my farm in La Pedrera as organic. Los resultados son muy buenos pero necesitamos hacer mercado del cafe nos pague lo justo, las fincas se encuentran en lugares que aportan mucho al ambiente por eso se ha decidido no aplicar productos quimicos, en la finca hay variedad de animales, y fuentes de agua que vienen del corazon de la montana y se hace todo esfuerzo por cuidarlos, en tiempo de cosechar el fruto, seleccionamos personas para cortar el cafe, y es transportado en caballo al lugar donde es beneficiado, (despulpado, lavado y secado) el grano es secado en secadoras solares, donde por ese metodo se nos permite ahorrar energia y seleccionar mas cuidadosamente el cafe, en los proyectos de certificacion que tenemos por parte de la cooperativa COCAFELOL los recibimos muy entusiasmados porque nos contribuyen a la economia y a cuidar bosques, fauna, fuentes de agua y en general la bio diversidad… Results are good but we need a market our coffee to obtain a fair price. Our farm is located in a place that contributes to the environment, thats why we decided not to continue applying chemicals. In our farm there are variety of animals, water springs that come from the heart of the mountain and we do our best effort to care for them, in time for our coffee harvest, we select our pickers. Coffee is then transported in horse back to the mill, and then dried in solar dryers to save energy using energy from the sun. We are happy to participate in certification process from the cooperatives since they contribute not only to our economy but to the keeping of our biodiversity-
