Description

The property is located on Cristina, MG, town which makes part of the tourist circuit known as Estrada Real, and has 10,215 inhabitants, according to the Census 2002, divided between rural and urban ones. There, the temperatures are varied, ranging from a highest of 30º C and a lowest of 8º C, generating an average of 20º C - and a balanced diet of rain throughout the year. Since at least 100 years ago, coffee is the main activity in the Transwal Farm, and this knowledge has being passed down from generation to generation. In the last decade, producers have focused their efforts on the cultivation and production of specialty coffees, implementing a system of organic management of the plantations. As a good result, those coffees were finalists in many editions of the Brazil Cup of Excellence, reaching even the gold medal in 2002.

Coffee processing system

The coffee harvest is done manually and selectively, the beans are immediately transported to the processing machines where they are washed, as soon as they are harvested, then, are separated as green, ripe and peeled ones. The drying process is made on a suspended screen, protected by greenhouses with drop sides.

Commitment to quality

The family farms, including Transwal, are managed by an agronomist over the years, also had the experience and advice of other professionals in the coffee business. There was a whole orientation and an investment for the production of specialty coffees, the plantations are conducted through a system of organic farming, the beans are harvested when they are in their full maturity, during many turns of workers around the plots, and processed in the same day, with drying occurring mainly on suspended terraces.
