About the farm:

The farm “Maria” is located in the community Las Nubes in the municipality of Dipilto, Department Nueva Segovia. It is a semi organic farm that is located on altitude of 1310 m above the sea level. We also cultivate citrus fruit and musaces and we have huge variety of flora and fauna. I bought this farm 32 years ago. I have 5 mz of land our of which 4 mz produce coffee and 1 mz is still under development. The present production is 80 QQ of maragogype and caturra variety.

About his family:

I have a wife and four children.

What is the secret of your success?

Cultivation of organic coffee with adequate shadow and good production process; good wet mill with good hygiene, and good environmental practices. At the same time the zone is really particular for production of specialty coffee; and at the end is the good management in the dry mill.

How do you feel being a winner of the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua 2010?

I feel happy knowing that I reached something that I wanted since I have always expected to win in this competition.

The Cup of Excellence competition is very important because is an opportunity to get to know the coffee quality of many small producers. Moreover, motivates them to make bigger effort to improve their coffee.
