About the farm:

The farm “La Castanuela” is located in the Tablazon community, Municipality of Dipilto, Department of Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua . The farm is situated on 1170 m altitude above the sea level with a rainfall of 1600 mm per year. Lime loam with the temperature that varies between 19ºC and 27ºC. I bought my farm in 2004 from Mr Tarcico Castellano Maldonado. This farm has 5.5.mz of production area with coffee plants. I have mainly caturra variety and 15 % of Bourbón, I also cultivate musaceas and citrus fruits.

I have a wife and three sons.

What is the secret of your success?

The secret is in the quality of the coffee that we produce here due to the location and the microclimate that is ideal for this crop. A good management, good agricultural practices, and especially good wet mill and the dry milling that provide the mill “Las Segovias”. All this are great efforts that allow us to take part in the Cup of Excellence competition.

How do you feel being a winner of the Cup of Excellence Nicaragua 2010?

I feel really happy to have won this rank in the Cup of excellence competition. Now we can improve our plantation and the infrastructure of the wet mill.

The Cup of Excellence is of benefit to a lot of coffee producers as well as to the society in general since the producer can invest more and generate more jobs. This competition motivates and can improve the quality of our coffee.
