Overview

Mr. Alberto Vallejo is a traditional coffee farmer, neighbour of Pacora, leader of the village, owner of the farm “El Mango” since 1975 by then it cost him around $50.000, Colombia n pesos, in that year they started the action common group to manage recourses for the routs, aqueduct, electricity and education. The farm is being following a permanent process of renovation and adoption of new technologies according to the increasing of the productivity with principals of sustainability. With that the farm has a system for shade and actually they got the Rainforest Alliance Certification. Also Alberto is always attentive to improve the conditions to produce high quality coffee. Thanks to the Extension Service from the Committee of Coffee Growers and the Cooperative of Coffee Growers of the north of Caldas. Care of the Environment “El Mango” farm at the moment has water resources from the village aqueduct and the water birth; it has a septic well to reduce pollution to the environment. Also it has a system for the treatment of the mucilage; it also has a shade system about native species that help the fauna of the region. They got a program to manage the solids from the farm, according to the normatively of the Rainforest Certification Program and to the vision of the Sustainability. Process

FERTILIZATION:

Three (3) applications of chemical fertilizer per year around 1.000 to 1.500 kilograms per hectare, also they do applications of organic preparations from the farm.

DISEASES AND PLAGUES CONTROL:

They make an integrated control, in the case of the insect “la broca“ they do a good picking of the cherries with an application of the fungus “bauveria bassiana”. HARVEST CYLE: Semester A 20% and Semester B 80% SYSTEM PROCESS: Traditional - Washed
