Description

Describe the history of your Farm: Your traditions? I received this farm in the year 2001 as a legacy from my father. Family generations? All the generations in the family have been dedicated to the cultivation of coffee and vegetables. Which technologies are used? Cleans are done using the machete and the Pando, shade regulation and selective sanitary pruning in the coffee plantation with the elimination of lost material. Describe the production process of your coffee from the ground to the cup....... How do you fertilize? When and how do you do it? Two applications of chemical fertilizer are done, the first in May and the second in September, also granular fertilizer is applied to the soil and leafing twice a year. How do you do pest controls? There is no control because there is no damage. What kind of shade do you use? None, this plantation is in full sun. When and how do you harvest the coffee? We start in the month of December ending in the month of May, cut the coffee selective and individually, only the red grains, and take care that before pulping to separate the green and dry coffee. How do you transport the fruit to the wet mill and how long does it take? Moving it in small cars and it takes 15 minutes to reach the mill. Do you have a motor pulper and what conditions is it in? Have a pulper and a mucilage remover due to too much ripening of the grain. What type of water is used to clean the coffee? Is it clean? Is it recycled? Clean water is used for washing the coffee after it has reached its point of fermentation. How long do you leave the coffee fermenting? It takes the fermentation of coffee 18 hours in hot days and 36 hours in cold days. How do you dry the coffee? Partly in screeners and partly on concrete courtyards. How do you carry grain to the exporter or to the mill and how long does it take? It’s transported in pickup vehicles; it takes one and a half hours to reach the mill. What are you doing to preserve the environment and ecology of your farm? Plants timber trees and the pulp of the coffee is used as organic fertilizer. How has the coffee crisis affected you and your employees? Much affected when coffee prices are lowered, so incomes are also low and cannot give assistance to the farm.
