Overview

Businde Coffee Washing Station was founded by Christian Manicanye (the manager) with 3 other co-founders. Christian and his co-founders have a total number of 8700 coffee trees. Before creating their own coffee washing station, they have to travel 30 km, during each harvest, to get to the closest coffee washing station. In 2006, came the idea of building their own coffee washing station in the neighborhood.
They shared the idea with their neighbors, who appreciated the project but did not want to take the risk. In 2007, the 4 farmers put together their savings and took a loan from the bank. A year after, they opened Nzewe, their first coffee washing station. 16 other coffee farmers joined their project. In 2009, they increased their capital, which allowed them to build Businde, their second coffee washing station. Thereafter, Businde CWS was able to process coffee cherries from 8 districts and 3 collection centers, Businde farmers committed to produce high quality coffee.
