Description

Overview:

I was born in the village “Cerro Bajo” in the municipality of Bolivar located in the department of Cauca, on October 4th of 1968. I did my elementary studies in the school “Escuela Rural Mixta Cerro Bajo”. My entire childhood I lived in my parent’s farm, learning and interacting with the daily coffee tasks.
At the age of 14 I decided to move from my town searching for my own economic resources. I worked during six years in coffee farms of the departments of Huila and Quindio, where I learnt to grow coffee in a technified way. I sent part of the money I gained to my father so he could supply some of the family’s necessities and the other part became savings.
When I was 20 years old I definitely came back to my town with the strong objective of working my own land. In the first months I helped in the tasks of my family’s farm and with my savings I was able to buy a beautiful farm which I called “Miramar”. And that is how I established my first project of 2000 coffee trees of Caturra variety.
When I was 25 I met the love of my life, Edilma Hernandez Munoz, my wife, partner and friend. As a result of this union, God has blessed us with 3 children: Jeison Andres who is 20 years old, Wilson Fernando who is 17 years old and Daniel Santiago who is 9 years old. When children arrived, the work in the farm was multiplied by three as the coffee projects did because we passed from having 2000 trees to 6000 with the arrival of my third child.
Currently our illusions continue focused on coffee so in that way my children could have the opportunity of continue studying a professional career. Nowadays we have 12000 coffee trees and we belong to the specialty coffees program of Nespresso AAA, guided by the Coffee Growers Committee of Cauca through the Extension Service that permanently trains us to continue producing excellent quality coffee.
Our challenge and compromise for future is continue growing coffee: technified, productive, of great quality and without damaging the environment.
