Description

Overview

Nestled at the top of the Ilamatepeq Volcano (also known as Santa Ana) in the West region of El Salvador , there lies the San Blas farm. This is a true wild forest farm, since its coffee plantation is composed of the traditional Red Bourbón along with Orange and Yellow Bourbón, exotic and rare varieties from the Arabica, with trees that reach more than 16 feet tall!San Blas is a Rainforest Alliance certified farm with a total extension of 150 Ha, although only 122 Ha are cultivated with coffee, and less than 50Ha are actively producing at this time. Its average altitude is about 1,700 meters or 5,700 feet above sea level, which also allows having spectacular views from the farm, as well as a unique microclimate with temperatures averaging between 65°F during the day and 42°F at night. Its volcanic soils have all the nutrients needed in order to nourish coffee cherries for full development. The farm was acquired by Monte San Blas S.A. de C.V. in 2004 through purchase to the ATAISI de R.L. Cooperative.
Being a coffee grower for over 30 years, Monte San Blas’ legal representative, Jeff Holman, along with his farm workers have been intensively working under innovative agricultural practices that have made a great impact in the farm’s production output and of course in his quality. The farm is currently producing an average of 200 bags of 69Kg each of exportable quality coffee, but with the continuous work and renovation of plantation it is expected that volume will definitely increase.
As a third generation of coffee producers I am totally committed with innovation and excellence, and my goal is to be able to pass this quality commitment legacy onto my children so they can keep quality of coffee production as their tradition.
Quality achievement is not a coincidence; it is the result of many years of intensive work, not only in the plantation but with our human resource as well. We have given our workers special training and also have looked for different means to motivate them in order to perform a good job and feel happy about it. Picking coffee at it is optimal level of ripening has been key.
Being among the Cup of Excellence winners this year has been a great achievement and enticement to keep working hard in order to get the best quality of coffee. We are committed with excellence and the delighting of the consumers of our coffee is our target, so we will do all we can to get the best results every year.
We think Cup of Excellence is a great window to the Specialty coffee industry, where one can have access to many different buyers around the world.
