Description
My name is Luis Alfredo Rojas Fierro; I was born the 8th of July of 1951 at my parents’ farm in the village Alejandría in the municipality of Garzón (Huila). I got to study until the 5th grade of primary in the school of my village, studying every one week so I could attend my compromises at my parent’s farm. As a child I was taught to be very responsible, I stood out by my daily job at the farm, and because my parents were very humble and low-income they need all my unconditional support; at the farm we didn´t have electricity, not pavement route, not aqueduct, and the coffee was not really a technician cultivar, it was seeded as bare rooted, the trees were all Typica variety and coffee was free for growth without fertilization and all shaded.
In 1969 I made a course “Orientation Course for Rural Life” at the Manuel Mejia Foundation thought the Coffee Committee of Huila in Chinchiná – Caldas, to learn about the techniques for growing coffee, sugar cane, bananas, grasses and also some animal production instructions.
In the year of 1970 they left me a coffee lot form the farm to grow coffee in which I made a nursery of 7,000 coffee trees of caturra variety and I sold half so I could plant the left 3,500 ones. In 1973 I had an accident and I had a disability of (1) year I wasn’t able to be stand up, but my father and neighbors when they saw that I couldn´t go to the lot and work they gave me the help to clean up my plantation that was almost smothered in weeds. When I recovered I continue working in my land with more motivation and dedication to pick up my first harvests.
The 26th of January of 1976 I married with a great woman Yolanda Guevara Rojas and thanks god we have a beautiful daughter Viviana Sofía Rojas Guevara, she is also in love with the countryside, and today I can proudly say that we are a happy family.
Then I bought the farm “Chorrillos” of 7 hectares in total, the deeds are under my wife name`s but I am the official administrator; there are 25,000 coffee trees of different ages, distributed 50% Castillo, 25% Colombia and 25% Caturra varieties. From this farm I have obtained my best coffee and have participating in some regional coffee contest and I got the recognition from a coffee buyer in the United States, I also was the second winner of a regional competition at the cooperative level and recently I got to the finals of the 11th Cup of Excellence competition.
