Luz Stella is owned by the company Custodio S.A. de C.V. represented by Mr. Mario Rosenthal, who besides being a passionate coffee producer has also been a professional pilot for over forty years, flown almost all kinds of commercial aircraft and corporate small business jet.

Let’s leave Mr. Rosenthal to tell his story on Luz Stella farm, as it definitely sounds much better reading it in first person:

“When I started my career as a professional aviator, I was very proud to mention what I did for a living…Now as a professional coffee producer I can affirm you that I am as proud of being in this marvelous field as I used to be a pilot.

I bought my first coffee farm with the overtime I made when Taca airlines almost went bankrupt because of a labor dispute. That was thirty years ago, time sure flies.

Luz Stella farm had been in the negotiating stages for over thirty years, the previous owner and myself finally a few years back agreed on the terms and was sold to me.

As a pilot I always had ring side seat of the world, I was always looking to buy a place that had some similarities with what I was used to see. LZ 1776 is the nick name we have given the farm, the number is because that is the altitude where the cup of excellence coffee bean was picked from.

The Bourbón coffee trees on LZ 1776 have been blessed all year with the heavenly mist the forest has, these healthy eighty year old trees have been bent to generate new branches, an agricultural practice called “agobio”. The soil of course is the ideal for any kind of tree; it has the required forty percent of minerals that the perfect soil requires.

Luz Stella was a very unique woman; she lasted on planet earth until she was almost ninety. She claimed that she had an easy life and a wonderful trip on this planet because of her immense consumption of high altitude coffee. She of course was my dear mother.

The farm is located between three volcanoes, the shade trees are the ones that survived the recently eruption of the Ilamatepec volcano. The huge old oak trees and the rest of the hard wood companions help to bring that heavenly sensation.”

There is no doubt that Luz Stella will keep producing great quality coffee for many more years to come, especially when we see the commitment Mr. Rosenthal has with quality and the preservation of El Salvador ’s most famous heirloom varietal: the Bourbón.
