Description

Kigobe Coffee Washing Station is one of the 7 Coffee Washing Station managed by Kahawa Link Company S.A. During this 2014-2015 season, it has processed coffee cherries from 295 small producers organized within a cooperative named  « TUGWIZ’IKAWA » in Kirundi, which means “LET US INCREASE COFFEE CROP” in Engilsh. Kigobe Coffee Washing Station is located in a better coffee growing and rich in biodiversity area:

• The soil is one of the most fertile of the region;
• Coffee plantations are scattered throughout numerous bananas plantations mixed with forestry and agro forestry species improving anthropogenic effect on coffee farming;
• The microclimate of the hills is softened by the high density of rivers that wind the region; At this washing station, the producers bring the red ripe cherries separated from under ripe cherries, over ripe cherries and foreign matter. These cherries are delivered to the wet mill the same day they are picked. These picked cherries have to be selected for eliminating the floating by waterline before pulping. Coffee beans are fermented during 14 hours, washed in water collected by gravitation from a water source and sorted when pre drying, dried on beds during a period depending upon weather. Therefore, parchment is stocked in cleaned and well ventilated warehouse before processed in dry mill.

The coffee beans obtained are of high grade, heavy, and produce the best liquor of the whole region. Its coffee’s cup has a caramel’s aroma, clean, good sweetness, nice acidity such as malic, complex fruity, syrupy, balanced coffee, good and longer aftertaste.
