Description

Loma Guayabal is located 200 meters away from the community Caballo Rucio. The finca from Zeferino is inherited from his parents, and coffee was the sole income for his family. This finca is organic by nature; we have never utilized any chemical substance. Is shade grown. The plantation has belonged to the family for three generations, the grandfather and the son Zeferino, this means 50 years working on coffee. In 2002 broca plague appeared, this affected directly our seeds. They took workshops for learning on how to control it and for 2008 he totally eradicates the insects. His family has fixed goals and objectives as growers; they want to improve year after year and get better prices for their coffee and in consequence his family could live a better life. Los Encinos and Arriba Rio Pastor are the parcels of Mr. Jesús Modesto. In 1985 he inherited Arriba Rio Pastor from his father. At that time the coffee plants were new and the production was very good. But the time was passing and the coffee trees were getting old and the yield was decreasing. Don Jesús noticed that it was needed the renewal of the plants and he begun to work on the nurseries for his new plants. He keeps doing this practice. In 1995, he bought El Encino land. The coffee trees were 15 years old and he had to renovate them all. He is used to control weeds by hoeing twice a year, the last one is before harvest.

We are very happy of being part of the group of winner for the Cup of Excellence, we want to compete again with the Harvest 2014-2015, now we know what we need to improve for increasing quality but we are also sure that our finca has the characteristics for raise good plants.
