Description

The Cooperative “ABATERANINKUNGA BA SHOLI” grows coffee and processes coffee. It was initiated by 30 women residents of Sholi Cell, Cyeza Sector, Muhanga District, and Southern Province and created in 2008
Due to the lack of proper market of coffee beans, they could not achieve their goal which was to promote and value coffee production; for this reason as they were looking for more support, they formed the named cooperative with more other members.

The cooperative started as an association but the name remained Abateraninkunga (Mutual assistance) and after a certain time the association grew up and admitted men in their cooperative. It is in this respect that the association changed into the cooperative “Abateraninkunga ba Sholi” and  was registered in Rwanda Cooperatives Agency in 2003. Currently, the cooperative has got 332 members of which 207 are women.

The Cooperative “Abateraninkunga ba Sholi” carries out various activities namely:

Coffee growing: Each cooperative member has got his/her own coffee plantation but has to take it to the coffee washing station for preliminary processing steps. Furthermore, the cooperative has a privilege of owning a collective coffee plantation of 2 hectares with 1200 coffee trees and another coffee plantation with 8000 coffee trees received as donation from Cyeza Sector.
