Description

Founded in the year 2000, Dukunde Kawa Musasa Coopertive cultivates its high quality coffee not very far from Gorilla Mountains in Gakenke district, Northern Province in Rwanda. The cooperative started with 300 members but up to date they are about 1,816 members who are indeed coffee farmers among whom 33% are women. Members are located in different sectors namely Ruli, Muhondo and Coko where most the coffee plantations are covering around 1,100 ha supplying coffee cherries to a total of 4 washing stations, the largest of which being the Musasa.  Dukunde kawa musasa own a wet mill which is located at an altitude of around 2000 m above sea level. Dukunde Kawa secures a high standard of living for Rwandan farmers by ensuring access to health and education support to all cooperative members and to economically and environmentally sustainable coffee industry and was certified fairtrade since 2004 and ranked 14th in the CoE 2013 competition.

The quality of our coffees

To achieve the best from our Bourbón coffee, our farmers do the best agricultural practices which is followed by timely harvesting and supply of cherries to the washing station where further handpicking of cherries and subsequent sorting is followed before processing. The cherries are processed through wet method and then fermented and graded accordingly times. Thereafter the graded coffee are carefully sorted once more with dedicated women and then sun dried to obtain one the highest quality coffee that is sold in different high end coffee international market.
