What is your farm’s history? Is your farm a family unit? How long has it belonged to your family? How many members make up your family? 

I began growing Coffee in the year 2000, first with a very small farm not even a quarter of a hectare and then I grew 1.8 hectares of coffee.

How many persons work in your farm, family members, permanent employees and temporary employees?

I work full time in my farm and I hire eventually some people to help me in the activities of the farm. For harvesting I hire 15 – 20 pickers of the community.

What natural resources conservation practices do you follow in the farm?

Natural barriers and shade grown beside the coffee.

What is the shade percentage and the varieties found in your farm?

Most of my coffee is grown under shade but no more than 15% of shade because the altitude.

What type of fertilization process and rust control do you use in your farm?

No rust incidence due to good management practices of my coffee.

What type of management do you use in your farm (traditional, semi-technical, and technical?) traditional.

Are you part of an association or cooperative?

No, I am a single producer.

What is the secret for winning this competition (describe the preparation process of the competing lot)?

The correct processing of my coffee. I use 2 fermentation tanks and sundry my coffee, using screen driers.

How does it feel to be a winner of the Cup of Excellence?

It is a good experience that helps one grow.

I have participated for 3 years.

My objective is to improve my farm and help with the development of the church group I go to.
