Farm: San Judas Tadeo

Farmer: Victor Manuel Leva Bulnes

Farm’s name and location:

San Judas Tadeo farm is located in Las Flores community in the municipality of Santa Bárbara, Department of Santa Bárbara. It has an altitude of 1550 meters above sea level.

What is your farm’s history? Is your farm a family unit? How long has it belonged to your family? How many members make up your family?

I became a coffee grower in 2014, I bought this farm that already it had planted coffee with varieties like Yellow Catuai,

How many persons work in your farm, family members, permanent employees and temporary employees?

I hire 4 – 5 people to help us in the management of the farm, for harvest season I hire 15 – 20 people to help us in picking, milling, washing and drying activities.

We fertilize with a special formula for coffee crops Nutricafe (18-3-18) and also we do two applications of chicken manure combined with coffee pulp.

It is a semi-technical farm.

Are you part of an association or cooperative?

No, I am a single producer.

What is the secret for winning this competition (describe the preparation process of the competing lot)?

My farm is located in an area with good climate and soil conditions. Besides I pay more to pickers to get just ripe cherries. We do the wet milling the same day and we use clean water from the mountain to wash the coffee. The drying process is done in a solar drier for 15 days.
