Description

Farm: Santa Teresa
Producer: Jorge Luis Lagos Calix
*Farm History:
This farm has been in the family since the sixties when Isaias Lagos (RIP) (father of Jorge Lagos and husband of Xenia Calix respectively) bought it when he emigrated from Honduras during political problems in that country. For a long time it was not known about the high quality that was produced on the farm, until new trends and the spirit of always improving led us to realize the enormous potential we had. During the war in the eighties the farm was confiscated by the government in turn and returned in terrible conditions until 1990 so Isaias Lagos had to start from scratch again. When Jorge Lagos graduated as an Agronomist Engineer in 2006, he started managing the farm and the changes did not take long; the social and environmental part were the first points to improve within the farm, also the condition of the plants and wet mill facilities. Isaias Lagos died on April 5, 2013, only five days before Jorge Lagos's birthday; but his legacy of values and hard work are still perceptible on the farm.
* Family Generations:
The farm is currently managed by Jorge Lagos, who represents the second generation together with his mother Xenia Calix, widow of Isaias Lagos. The family is composed of Xenia Calix Widow of Lagos and four children: Mildred Lagos, Ruth Lagos, Jose Antonio Lagos and Jorge Lagos as youngest son
* What were the good practices that you implemented that made it the winner of the Cup of Excellence program?
QUALITY CONTROL: this is the change that led us to substantially improve our quality, where we had control of the maturation of cutting, control and measurement of fermentation and drying; all this led us to realize that we needed to improve and that we were wasting energy and resources.
* How does it feel to be one of the winners?
Without a doubt it is a feeling that fills a lot because it is the price to all the effort of my parents and my collaborators, and very important also that it is a great motivator to keep improving every year.
* In what will you invest the profits you obtain from the cup of excellence?
Improve the conditions of my collaborators even more and finish acquiring my testing laboratory
