Description

El Guatalon is located at Belen Village, Santa Rosa de Lima, Santa Rosa; 35 kms from Guatemala City. It has a total area of 100 hectares, 30 of which produce coffee and the rest possess a natural forest reserve of pine, cypress and other varieties.

With over 60 years in coffee production, the Juarez family is currently in its fourth generation of coffee growers, and has continued this legacy producing one of the best coffees of the region.

The name “El Guatalon” comes from the term “guatal”, a word used in some Central American countries that refers to a piece of land where cattle graze after the corn harvest.

Some of the coffee varieties that can be found at El Guatalon are Caturra, Bourbon, Pache San Ramón, Villa Sarchi, Yellow Catuaí, Pacas, Pacamara and Maragogype. The annual production of El Guatalon and annexes is 800 qq of parchment coffee. The harvest season is from December to April.

We put great effort and importance on keeping our natural resources and biodiversity.

Other attractive aspects are ecotourism and bird watching.

Wet mill: ecologic wet mill whose water source comes from natural wells. A method of water recirculation is utilized in every process with the intention of using less quantity of water. We have water treatment in sediment piles and use pulp in plantations as organic fertilizer by transforming it with lombricomost.  All of our coffee is sun dried in patios for around 10-12 days, which produces a very consistent and a high quality level.
