Description

In 1953, Mrs. María Figueroa de Argueta obtained these lands from the
municipality of Chiantla. In that year, some typical coffee plants, bourbon and
maragogipe were planted, beginning in this way the cultivation of coffee. Later in
1977 she inherited to his son Erwin Modesto Argueta Figueroa, who managed to
entirety cultivate the 11.56 blocks of extension with varieties such as caturra,
green and red Pache. In 2005, after the creation of the municipality of Union
Cantinil this farm passes to that jurisdiction in the village “La Esperanza”.
As of 2005, the farm is managed by the third generation of the family. Erwin
Humberto Argueta Herrera, who has promoted the cultivation of coffee with
quality in mind, so that the productive processes of the farm are changing along
with the training of its personnel, in search of technology and improving
productivity, with the commitment to be friendly with the environment.
In the year 2012, and in response for rust issues in Guatemala, they saw the
need to look for new ways to commercialize coffee. This is how they started with
specialty coffees and participating in different competitions promoted by Anacafé.
It was in 2014, that they where finalists of Guatemala Cup of Excellene. This
motivated them to do better, improve processes and varieties. So after
investigating, they decided to start a batch with the F1 Central American variety.
By the year 2016, their plantations showed an improvement, the rust was
controlled and they learned to live with it, improving their agricultural practices
with the integrated management of rust. In this year, they reached the 14th
position within Cup of Excellence.
Last year, 2018, they obtained the 7th place in CoE, being this the best
