Description

The coffee farm “El Guayabo” is located in El Cedral community, municipality of Las Vegas, Department of Santa Bárbara. It has an altitude of 1650 meters above sea level. The owner Mario Moreno, works with two types of processes (washed and natural). He began growing coffee in 2005 the varieties Pacas and Catuai. Nowadays he works with these two varieties but also he has been improving throughout the years his agronomic management. He focuses in good harvesting process from the recollection (only red cherries) to the drying process. He belongs to a traditional coffee producer family: The Moreno Family. Don Daniel, his father began to produce coffee since 1980 traditional way. In 2005 the oldest brother in the family, Miguel, began to participate in COE with good success and the rest of the brothers and cousins began to participate too. Mario Moreno had to work very hard to have his farm, after working in the US for 5 years as an immigrant, and after saving enough money, in 2010 he returned to Honduras and bought his first plot of land, El Guayabo farm, and planted coffee, following the steps of his brother Miguel.

His main goal is to be able to obtain the first place in Cup of Excellence competition in order to have the opportunity of securing a relationship with a specialty coffee importer. COE has been the best platform to make him known by buyers and to improve his familiy’s wellness. With the sales his made in COE, he has managed to buy more land and plant more coffee.
