Description

The coffee grown on the farm La Isla is variety Typica, Costa Rica 95 and Oro Azteca, of which the last two have been planted in the last eight years, as a possible solution to the strong problem of coffee rust, and this significantly affected the Arabica crops typical of the area. This farm, which is 35 years old as a crop, is located on the known road that connects Teocelo with the community named Isla Chica. The average altitude of the farm is 1270 meters above sea level, with a temperate humid climate most of the year, but in winter the temperature drops considerably and the dense fog phenomenon frequently occurs, characteristic of the area that forms the so-called foggy forest to which Teocelo also belongs. For more than ten years it has been cultivated with vermicompost, produced from the coffee pulp and the municipal common fund of the composting project in Teocelo, Veracruz.

All the cultivation and harvesting works are directed by the García Ramírez family and some residents of the same town, approximately 20 people work on the farm. This begins in the middle of the month of November and extends until the middle of the month of March. As is common in coffee plantations in the area, some fruit trees such as orange, guava and banana also coexist. For this process, this season, specifically for the beneficiary, collaborated with the benefit of San Rafael coffee, located in Pacho Viejo, Veracruz, where coffee from the La Isla, El Charquillo, La Roca, El Manantial and San Rafael, these last three belonging to the Ramírez Moreno family.
