Description

Sítio Rancho do Mirante is located in the city of Olímpio de Noronha, in the Serra da Mantiqueira region, in the south of Minas Gerais. The property was acquired in 2009 by owner Mr. Antônio, his wife and son, and is run by the first generation of coffee producers in the family.

The farm is at an average elevation of 1100 meters. The region, with mountainous topography, with an average annual rainfall of 1600 mm, and an average temperature of 18°C, has a differentiated climate and soils favorable to the production of specialty coffees.

The property is located in the area which holds Mantiqueira de Minas Designation of Origin seal, which guarantees the source of the coffee, (www.mantiqueirademinas.org). Antônio is also a member of the Cooperativa Regional dos Cafeicultores do Vale do Rio Verde Ltda – COCARIVE, (www.cocarive.com.br) which stores, prepares and commercializes the lots, and of ASCARIVE, a FAIR TRADE Association, which is committed to fair trade and sustainable production of high-quality coffee.

Currently Mr. Antônio, his wife and son are dedicated to growing coffee sustainably, preserving the springs and native forests on their farm. His wife, Berenice, is responsible for post-harvest processing, and his son, 30-year-old Michel Nunes, is responsible for caring for the crops from the harvest to final processing, to obtain good results.

The processing of this lot é dry method (natural), of the Yellow Bourbon variety, with a quantity of 6 bags. The harvest was done when the cherries were well-ripened, by hand over cloths to avoid the beans touching the ground. On the same day it was picked, the coffee was taken to the patio where it was washed and spread in a greenhouse in thin layers to dry to the ideal humidity. After being pulped, the beans were separated into lots and deposited at COCARIVE’s warehouse in Carmo de Minas.

From the beginning of production, Rancho do Mirante has relied on the guidance of agronomists from COCARIVE and ASCARIVE, and always follow instruction in managing cultivation.

The lots are deposited in at COCARIVE’s warehouse, which has cutting-edge equipment to prepare and process the coffee lots.

The beans selected have their quality analyzed and certified by specialists in COCARIVE’s export department, which has a laboratory, graders and cuppers, to offer the market lots of extremely high quality.
