Description
Hacienda La Florida | Sozoranga-Loja
Lot altitude: 1450 meters above sea level.
We are the Coronel Pilco family and we manage Hacienda La Florida. We operate a sustainable model that produces world-class coffees. We won the Golden Cup (Taza Dorada) in 2020, our coffee was also used by the 2021 Brewing Champion, and in 2022 we achieved 3rd place in the Golden Cup with a Sidra White Honey. We are experienced land workers, diligently producing sugarcane, fruits, and vegetables, in addition to raising pigs, little cows, and tilapia fish.
We manage an agroforestry system, paying special attention to the soil since a healthy soil, adapted to the needs of the plants and the environment, is crucial for achieving good cup quality. Hacienda La Florida was acquired by us in 1994 through our grandparents. It was a Spanish hacienda during the colonial era and an indigenous settlement before that. The climate in the area is very warm and dry. During the rainy season, the weather changes drastically, and the precipitation is very high. It is surrounded by a primary forest that hosts a wide biodiversity such as orchids, civets, armadillos, deer, and pumas, some of which are often seen roaming the estate.
We are agricultural engineers, cultivating coffee since 2015, we have independently evolved towards sustainable and quality agriculture.
