Description

The name KIZUNA (絆), of Japanese origin, means “unbreakable bond” or “deep connection between people.” This word captures the spirit that has guided our family for more than a decade and a half: our connection to coffee growing, the bond between producer and consumer, and a strong commitment to producing the finest coffee possible.
Monte Copey was born from a dream shared by the Navarro family. Since 2009, it has been a pioneer in Costa Rica’s specialty coffee movement, earning global recognition in 2014 by placing 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th in the Cup of Excellence, and by being chosen by World Barista Champion Hide Izaki to represent Japan at the World Barista Championship, where he secured first place using our coffee.
KIZUNA is located at an elevation of 1,950 meters above sea level and features three hectares planted with Typica and Catuai varieties, along with one hectare of preserved montane forest. We are deeply committed to sustainable land management, which we believe is essential for the future of the farm and the quality of our coffee.
This philosophy allows the natural beauty of Costa Rica’s highland ecosystems to coexist and thrive alongside coffee cultivation. It is not uncommon to spot wildlife such as tapirs, agoutis, coatis, and wild boars roaming the farm. Tree species like poró and ficus, along with fruit trees such as banana, provide natural shade to the slopes, creating a microclimate ideal for coffee.
In 2025, we are proud to once again participate in the Cup of Excellence Costa Rica, and we are thrilled to have earned 4th place in the Washed category auction. This achievement reaffirms our commitment to excellence and to the continued recognition of the Typica variety—now an iconic representation of our farms and a symbol of a family devoted to coffee with passion and purpose.
