Description

Antonio Andrade Pereira Filho and Maria da Conceição Costa Pereira decided to invest in coffee cultivation in Carmo de Minas at the beginning of the 1970s. They bought 90 acres of land and planted the first seedlings. As the trees grew, the couple’s two daughters were born: Maria Valeria and Maria Rogéria.

Since they were young, Maria Valeria and Maria Rogeria liked to follow their father around. Decades later, in 2002, when specialty coffee production began in Carmo de, Maria Valeria and Maria Rogéria were running the farm themselves, their father having retired in 1996.

When they married, their husbands joined them in their common mission. And when their father passed away, the sisters decided not to break apart, but to strengthen their bond. Thus, they changed the name of the farm from Serrado to Irmãs Pereira to seal the spirit of sisterhood.

And things improved further when CarmoCoffees was created by cousins Jacques Pereira Carneiro and Luiz Paulo Dias Pereira Filho, Luiz Paulo being Maria Rogéria’s son. The focus on quality has provided ever better results for the family. Luiz, representing an even more modern way of thinking, began performing very successful experiments with Irmãs Pereira’s production. With new management techniques, the family invested in producing specialty coffees and in new coffees processing methods: Black Honey, Honey, Double Pass, Sparkler, Natural, Fully Washed and Fermented.

After all the processing methods, the coffees can be dried on three African beds or on conventional drying patios. Clients may choose their preferred drying method.

The coffee was picked by hand and cherries were separated in the wet mill. It was fermented anaerobically and finally dried on African beds.
