Cup of Excellence
The farm “Las Barrancas" (the cliffs) is located in the community of Cuapan, Huitzilan de Serdán, Puebla. The coffee is grown and processed by the Cortes Aco family. It is located approximately at a height of 1160 meters above sea level, the dimensions of the land are 3 and a half hectares of which only 2 hectares are planted with coffee and the rest of the region's own forest with oak, ocote (Pinus montezumae ) and ayakouite (Pinus ayacahuite) . The name of the "Las Barrancas" derives from the fact that it is located in the middle of three river streams that give humidity to the land all year round. The variety of coffee is completely Marsellesa, with the 2020-2021 harvest being its third year of production, within the coffee plantation there are fruit trees such as: orange, banana, guava and sugar cane. The harvest months are from December to March with selective cutting of mature coffees. We have two certifications: Café Practices and Fair Trade which have taught us to be friendly with nature by protecting trees, land and waterways. The small farm is part of the family inheritance of my father who not only left me the land, but also the passion for planting and harvesting coffee, I am very grateful that he taught me this noble work and in the same way pass it on to the next generation. Participating in the Cup of Excellence Mexico is a satisfaction since being the first year I have had a wealth of experiences on specialty coffees, as a producer I am convinced that to have a fair payment of our grain it is necessary to do the procedures with high margins of quality, from selective cutting, adequate fermentation time and drying in sieves.
