Description
Welcome to Farm San Jose, a picturesque 150-acre coffee farm nestled in the enchanting Matagalpa Region. Re-known for its coffee production, this farm sits at an elevation of 1,250 meters above sea level, gracing the heart of a captivating cloud forest.
Here, nature's microclimates weave their magic, creating the perfect conditions for cultivating exceptional specialty coffee.
Under the protective canopy of shade trees, the farm cultivates a harmonious blend of Arabica coffee varieties: Caturra, Yellow/Red Catuai, Maragogype, and Pacamara.
Bathed in the gentle mist and caressed by cool breezes, the coffee cherries ripen at a leisurely pace, infusing them with a tantalizing fragrance, an alluring aroma, a rich body, and a vibrant acidity. Each harvest is meticulously executed, with skilled workers selectively plucking only the ripest cherries, ensuring a flawless end product. These details are not lost on discerning buyers seeking the pinnacle of coffee quality.
For three generations, the Reyes family has nurtured the art of coffee cultivation in Nicaragua.
In 1991, Bayardo, driven by a burning desire to revive his family's legacy, acquired a small lot of land and christened it San Jose, an homage to his forefathers. Fueling his vision, Bayardo set out to craft a haven of extraordinary specialty coffee, while embracing his social responsibilities.
The initial steps taken on this journey involved constructing modest homes for the farm's permanent workers and implementing clean energy solutions, harnessing the power of sun and wind. At the outset, all materials were either laboriously carried by hand or transported by trusty pack mules since vehicular access was nonexistent. Sustainability became a cornerstone of the farm's ethos, with a focus on water conservation and safeguarding natural springs. Approximately 65 percent of the land was designated as a sanctuary for pristine forests, where the vibrant symphony of flora and fauna thrives undisturbed. To empower the workers, several acres were devoted to cultivating sustenance crops and cash crops, providing an avenue for personal growth and improved living conditions.
The spirit of community and education flourishes within the farm's boundaries. Embarking on a transformative journey, San Jose created a dedicated learning space, complete with electricity powered by renewable energy sources. Here, workers have the opportunity to attend classes five days a week, fostering literacy and a diverse range of educational pursuits. A passionate teacher guides these eager learners, unlocking the doors of knowledge and fostering a brighter future.
At Farm San Jose, we invite you to savor not only the exceptional taste of our coffee but also the story behind its creation. With every sip, you become part of a legacy built on dedication, sustainability, and the pursuit of excellence.
