Description

The “Café Santa Irene” project began at the end of 2012, with the concern of diversifying into new productive projects in a farm whose main activity is the sustainable management of forests. Inside the farm there was an area with abundant cuje trees (Inga sp. L.), a plant used with great success for shady coffee cultivation.
Research began on the coffee market, the advantages and disadvantages, and the possibility of starting a project for the cultivation of coffee under the concept of Differentiated Coffees was found.
This concept of Differentiated Coffees refers to the geography and microclimates that allow the production of coffee beans with a distinctive flavor and unique characteristics that preserve their identity of origin; and, thanks to the microclimate found, altitude, temperature, environment, natural water, natural environment and without coffee neighbors. We consulted experts and technicians of the National Coffee Association (Anacafe), who gave us their endorsement and motivated us to make this project a reality.
From our first harvests we managed to obtain a coffee with the qualities and character to be classified as a differentiated coffee. In the 2016-2017 harvest, we participated for the first time in the Rainforest Cobán regional competition promoted by Anacafé, obtaining first place. The following year, in the 2017-2018 harvest, we managed to repeat the feat. Since 2017 we have obtained national and international recognition that has made Café Santa Irene a specialty coffee recognized worldwide. Also, we managed to climb a step by qualifying in the 2019 Cup of Excellence within the 20 best coffees in Guatemala.
For those of us who work at Finca Santa Irene, it is our greatest pride to provide the consumer with one of the best cups of coffee in Guatemala
