Rio Arriba is part of the main farm (El Socorro and San Guayabá). These farms are located in Palencia, a municipality in the north of the department of Guatemala. This Farm has been in the hands of the Family for more than 100 years, but it was not until 1995 that coffee began to be planted. The average height of the plantations is 1700 meters above sea level. One of the main characteristics of this farm is that its biodiversity has been maintained, leaving the native trees of the place as a shade for coffee.
The coffee plantations of Finca Rio Arriba are managed as friendly as possible, trying to preserve the environment and its natural resources. When planting coffee, we apply organic matter from the composting of coffee pulp to the soil. We try to use the least amount possible of herbicides within the plantations and we do not use pesticides. We focus a lot on plant nutrition, relying on chemical and organic fertilizers.
