Description
Farm Santa Cruz is located at 1450 meters above sea level in the area of Aranjuez Matagalpa, the Maracaturra variety for me is very symbolic and important because it was one of the first varieties that my family worked with. For me it is important to be able to find out what quality means in a coffee farm, sometimes we believe that quality in some people can be the flavor, the management, in Santa Cruz farm we work with a mixture of everything from the good management of the crop, from a good management of the fertilizer and we also worry about the good management of the soil and in this way the soil feeds the plant and the plant feeds the coffee.
Our farm is more than 30 years old and our cup of coffee starts from these processes of soil biomineralization, it is a preparation of minerals and above all of rocks, humus, organic preparations of all the material that we have available of vegetable and animal origin that we have in the farm, We produce around 3 thousand sacks that is the demand that our plantations have, where we apply to each plant 2 kilograms of bocashi that is the organic material that we prepare for the harvest every year in addition to the other work that we do in the cultivation such as biological controls, diseases, pruning, and the establishment of shadows that is important for us.
We were selected among the 30 best in the Cup of Excellence Contest, in the year 2023 we came in third place through a different drying and processing process. My family has participated several times in Cup of Excellence, for us it is like a challenge because nature is wise and does not behave the same every year and this is something that is very difficult to evaluate, we are always looking for something new, But recognizing the fact of maintaining quality and being recognized is allowing us to continue creating and that is one of the biggest challenges and this is my second year participating in both occasions I have been among the 30 best in Nicaragua and my sister has also participated through the care and selection of one of the coffee lots of the farm, my father, my brother and even my mother at the end of the day that is what coffee growing is all about, it is about being able to connect the family learning within the cultivation of coffee and this is the fourth generation.
