Description
#1 — Las Margaritas Veintiséis
Emmanuel Solís Porras | Mill: Las Margaritas Veintiséis
Las Margaritas Veintiséis represents over 100 years of coffee tradition in the mountains of Santa María de Dota, now in the hands of its fourth generation. The 15-hectare farm sits between 2,000 and 2,100 meters above sea level and cultivates a diverse range of varieties — Catuaí Rojo and Amarillo, SL28, Bourbon Rojo, Milenio, Excelencia, and Geisha — alongside avocado, hydroponic strawberries, and fruit trees that contribute to ecosystem balance. The family invested in their own micromill to take full control of processing and ensure complete traceability from plant to cup.
Coffee at Las Margaritas is produced through Natural, Honey, Washed, and Experimental processes — with continuous exploration as a defining characteristic of the operation. Harvest takes place between February and May with 12 to 15 workers, including Panamanian indigenous communities and Nicaraguan laborers whose expertise is considered fundamental to quality. The farm operates without glyphosate or pollinator-harming insecticides, with shade trees, terraces, and coffee byproduct composting as pillars of their sustainability model. This winning Experimental lot reflects a century of commitment — and a family that keeps evolving it.
