Description
Finca La Peña is a modest but remarkably productive coffee farm in the highlands of Palencia, Guatemala—just outside the city. At around 6k ft, our farm benefits from a cool, rainy season followed by a warm, dry period, ideal conditions for growing and sun-drying coffee.
When we began, the land had just a few Arabica trees from the 1970s, some cattle, and steep open fields. Since then, we’ve turned it into a vibrant, community-driven operation. As a sixth-generation coffee grower, I’ve seen the cycles of success and hardship in this industry. We believe the future lies in sustainability, resilience, and respect for both the land and everyone involved.
We’ve planted shade trees like avocados and gravileas to protect crops, enrich our clay-heavy soil, and boost biodiversity. Our processing is simple and low-impact, using a small wet mill made from recycled materials and sun-drying beans on concrete patios. Today, La Peña is more than a farm to us, it’s a hobby that has grown to be part of the family.
