Description
#11 — La Planada
Manuel Antonio Barrantes Zúñiga | Mill: Cafetalera Herbazú S.A.
When a severe crisis hit the Costa Rican coffee market in the early 2000s, the Barrantes Zúñiga family responded with a bold investment: they built their own micromill. That decision, made at one of the most difficult moments in the industry, positioned them as pioneers in coffee processing in Costa Rica's West Valley and created a foundation that continues to define their operation today. Cafetalera Herbazú S.A. is now a benchmark for quality in the region, processing coffee from the family's own farms with full control over every stage.
Finca La Planada is a 3-hectare plot at 1,500 meters above sea level in Lourdes de Naranjo, processed entirely at Herbazú since its first harvest. The family's fourth generation is now actively involved in the business, bringing new energy and technical perspective to a project built on decades of accumulated knowledge. This lot, alongside Finca Leoncio in the Washed category, reflects the consistency and breadth of a family that has never stopped investing in quality.
