Description
#12 — El Centro
Francisco Mena Vílchez | Mill: Sumava de Lourdes SRL
Finca Sumava de Lourdes occupies a rare geographical position in the volcanic highlands of Costa Rica's West Valley: it receives influence from both the Pacific and Atlantic climates simultaneously. This dual exposure creates a microclimate of unusual balance — cool nights, misty mornings, and deep volcanic soils with excellent drainage. The result is a growing environment that is, as the producer describes it, a truly blessed spot for boutique coffee production.
The harvest season at El Centro is notably late, concentrated in February and March when dry and sunny conditions allow cherries to reach full ripeness. This extended maturation, shaped by the farm's unique terroir and microclimate, contributes directly to the sweetness and complexity of the final cup. Everything about Finca Sumava is a product of where it sits — a convergence of climates, soils, and timing that produces coffee unlike anything grown nearby.
