Description
#2 — Don Cayito
Luis Ricardo Calderón Madrigal | Mill: Sintis Café S.A.
Luis Ricardo Calderón was born in 1958 in Santa María de Dota and grew up working alongside his father, Cayo Calderón, on the family's agricultural land. His first connection to coffee came from a small lot inherited from his mother, and from that moment he dedicated his life to the crop. For decades, the family delivered their production to local cooperatives — until 2009, when they took a defining step by founding their own processing mill, Sintis Café, to add value to a coffee they had always believed deserved recognition.
Today, the next generation continues the legacy built by Luis Ricardo, combining the farming wisdom passed down over decades with a modern focus on quality, traceability, and sustainability. The family has been recognized among Costa Rica's best coffees in Cup of Excellence for ten consecutive years — a consistency that is the result not of favorable conditions alone, but of an unwavering standard of care at every stage of production. Don Cayito carries both the character of its mountain origin and the values of the family that has shaped it.
