Description
#6 — Santa Teresa
Roger Ureña Hidalgo | Mill: Roger Ureña Hidalgo
Roger Ureña Hidalgo has spent his entire life in coffee. He began helping his father on the farm as a child, planted his first seedbeds at age 15, and eventually traveled abroad to save enough to invest in his own operation. Eight years ago, he took the decisive step of founding the Santa Teresa 2000 Micromill, giving his family full control over processing and quality — a move that transformed the trajectory of their coffees. In 2024, that commitment was recognized with a first-place finish in the Cup of Excellence Washed category.
The Santa Teresa farm, located at 1,900 to 2,050 meters above sea level, is home to a diverse collection of varieties including Geisha, Rume Sudan, Pacamara, Villalobos, and Typica, among others. The family has participated in Cup of Excellence for nine consecutive years with consistent top-ten finishes. Their environmental commitment — through Costa Rica's Blue Flag Program and ongoing Carbon Neutral Certification — reflects the same discipline they bring to every harvest. Panamanian and Nicaraguan workers harvest and maintain the farm each season, and Roger considers their contribution integral to the coffee's quality.
