Description
I'm Urpania Guzman, a second-generation coffee producer, 58 years old. I started working with coffee at the age of 25, assisting my father in the field. In 2001, after my father's passing, I became the sole owner of the land when my brothers decided to sell their inherited portion. I continued working with coffee, but it wasn't until 2019 that I ventured into specialty coffee, transitioning to the Pacas variety.
The transition to specialty coffee was challenging due to the increased workload, care, and investment required. However, I found passion in witnessing the growth and development of something I had invested so much effort into.
This year marks my first harvest of the Geisha variety, which I intended to enter into the Cup of Excellence (COE). I feel relieved that my efforts with this Geisha have borne fruit, bringing important recognition to the hard work my family has put into caring for, nurturing, and growing the coffee. I am grateful to San Vicente Exports for their assistance in teaching us practices that ensure coffee quality and to God for guiding us through the difficult times. In the future I hope to continue the development in quality of my farm and looking forward to the next COE edition to reach the success this year harvest had.
