Description

Finca Xilontla, nestled in the verdant highlands of Cosautlán de Carvajal, Veracruz, stands as a testament to the Cadena family's dedication to specialty coffee. Established in 2018 by Carlos Alberto Cadena Pale, the farm spans 85 hectares, with 40 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation at an elevation of 1,350 meters. The land is steeped in history, featuring the ruins of a 19th-century hacienda, from which the farm derives its name, "Xilontla."

From its inception, Finca Xilontla has prioritized meticulous planning and sustainable practices. Before planting, the land was enriched with Tephrosia and green manure, and specific coffee varietals, including Geisha, were selected for their quality potential. Fertilization strategies are informed by soil analyses and harvest yields, ensuring optimal plant health and productivity.

The farm's commitment to excellence was recognized in the 2024 Cup of Excellence Mexico, where their Geisha lot achieved a score of 89.65, securing 4th place in the Naturals and Honeys category. This lot underwent a 38-hour anaerobic fermentation and was dried on African beds for 25 days, resulting in a cup profile noted for its chocolate syrup, orange sherbet, and juicy notes.

Finca Xilontla is part of a trio of family-run farms, including Finca Pocitos and Finca Huehuetepan, each contributing to the Cadena family's legacy in coffee production. Their collective vision is to elevate the reputation of Mexican coffee on the global stage, emphasizing quality and innovation.

For buyers seeking exceptional Mexican coffees, Finca Xilontla offers a unique combination of historical richness, sustainable farming, and award-winning quality.
