Description

Fazenda do Sertão is located in the municipality of Carmo de Minas, in the south of Minas Gerais, on the slopes of the Mantiqueira Mountains. It belongs to the Denomination of Origin Mantiqueira de Minas and sits at an altitude of 1,150 meters. The region is known for its distinctive conditions that favor the production of high-quality beans and some of the finest coffees in Brazil. With a mountainous landscape, an annual rainfall of 1,800 mm, and an average temperature of 18°C, it offers the perfect climate for coffee cultivation.

Mr. Francisco Isidro Dias Pereira represents the third generation of his family of coffee producers. The son of José Isidro Pereira and Nazareth Dias Pereira, the family’s first coffee growers, Mr. Francisco is one of the leading figures in ushering in the new era of specialty coffees in the region. With extensive experience and deep knowledge, he is dedicated to cultivating specialty coffees sustainably, always prioritizing environmental preservation. The farm maintains protected native forest reserves, home to large tree species and diverse wildlife.

Fazenda do Sertão combines advanced agricultural technology with a skilled team of agronomists and professionals who oversee every stage of planting, maintenance, and crop management. Detailed data collection and analysis support both production and administrative performance.

Coffee Processing System
Due to the mountainous terrain, harvesting is entirely manual, done on cloths to prevent any contact with the soil and preserve the beans’ quality. The cherries are then transported to Fazenda IP, another property within the Grupo Sertão, where they are washed, pulped, and spread to ensure a high-quality product. Afterward, they are taken to a mechanical dryer, followed by a resting period in wooden bins, then dried again until reaching 10.5% humidity. Finally, the beans are stored for 30 days to rest, hulled, and delivered to COCARIVE Cooperative in Carmo de Minas, where the final grading and classification are conducted.

Certifications: AAA Nespresso, Café Practices, and Direct Trade.
